Heath began utilizing the new arena by having team ropings from 2000 to 2004. In late 2004, he began to focus on a new line of work, and tossed around the idea of producing rodeos. In early spring of 2005, Heath & Jeanie took the plunge and formed the Heath Horton Rodeo Company. They joined the ACA (Arkansas Cowboys Association) as producers in the spring of 2005, and held a summer rodeo series at their place in Dennard on Monday nights from May thru September. For their efforts, they were awarded the Bucking Horse of the Year at the ACA Finals in 2005.
In 2006, the Monday night series was repeated from May thru September, and they added several weekend shows, including Heber Springs and Perryville. They received the Bucking Bull of the Finals and the Bareback Horse of the Finals awards at the ACA Finals in 2006. In addition, their Perryville show was voted “Best Ground” by the barrel racers.
The 2007 season began with winter rodeos at the Mid-State Arena in Damascus. Again, they repeated the Monday night series from May thru September, and added more weekend shows, including Marshall, Mt. View, Shirley, and Damascus. Their commitment paid off because they were honored as the 2007 Producer of the Year and Stock Contractor of the Year. Other awards from the 2007 ACA Finals included the Bucking Bull of the Year and Finals, the Bareback Horse of the Year and Finals, and the Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year and Finals. They were truly blessed with a terrific 2007 season!
Wow! The 2008 season has ended with the ACA Finals and once again the Horton Family was surprised by being chosen the 2008 Producer of the Year. This season has been tough and hard with gas prices and economy as they were, so this award was deeply appreciated, mainly because it was chosen by the cowboys & cowgirls. Horton's roughstock did well at the ACA Finals by being selected as: Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year, Bull of the Year, Saddle Bronc & Bareback Horse of the Finals, and Bull of the Finals.
According to Heath & Jeanie, they thank God for their family (of which they are so proud of), and the rodeo company that He has allowed them to build. They also enjoy their time with the rodeo “family” and want to thank them for their support and loyalty!
Heath’s passion to be a cowboy began at a very early age. His mom and dad remembered how he would stand in the feed trough, or stack 5 gallon buckets to saddle his own horse, even from the age of 8. He was on a horse every chance he got. He and his younger brother Brent used to play rodeo and take turns riding broncs and picking each other up from horseback.
As a teenager, in the 1990’s, he began helping Freddie Sutterfield and his family, with Sutterfield Rodeo Co., producing OTRA (Ozark Teenage Rodeo Association) shows. His passion for rodeo began to grow from there. He rode bulls and team roped in OTRA for 3 years, all the time helping to produce the rodeos every chance he got. In 1997, Heath started team roping at the USTRC and joined Arkansas Cowboys Association.
Heath and Jeanie were married in 1994 and moved to Conway. Heath worked hanging drywall and Jeanie went to pharmacy school. He team roped at Damascus each winter and went to jackpots through the summer.
In 1998, after Jeanie graduated from pharmacy school, they moved to Dennard to be closer to their families. Jeanie started working for Medic Pharmacy in Marshall and Heath continued to hang drywall in the central Arkansas area. Together they formed what is now the Crosspoint Ranch and Arena in Dennard.
Heath & Jeanie’s world changed in February of 1999 when God blessed them with their first son, Clay Bailey.
Right after finishing their summer series in September 2006, the Lord richly blessed them with their second son, Augustus Brent…they call him Gus.
Clay, the oldest son began his passion to be a cowboy at a very young age. He would watch westerns from his dad’s saddle, on a stand in the living room, and pretend he was right in the middle of the action. He carried a pistol from the time he was old enough to hold one and he began spinning pistols, as young as 3 years of age. His talent of spinning pistols led the Hortons’ to incorporate him into the rodeo shows starting in 2007 and he continues to entertain weekend crowds.
Gus is also proving to be cowboy material, he started saying “bull” at the age of one and it is, by far, his most spoken “word” to date. He loves to go see the bulls and help his daddy feed and water the stock.
